Souls, spirits, and meaningful boss rewards
Designing rewards that make boss victories change the rest of a run.

A victory should alter the run
Bosses originally acted mainly as gates. Souls and spirits turned them into build decisions. After a major fight, the reward could strengthen a current plan, introduce an element, or encourage a different route through the next stages.
Distinct rather than numerous
We focused on making spirits recognizable instead of filling a long list with small percentage changes. Strong identity makes a choice easier to remember and easier to discuss, which is valuable for both players and future balancing.
Connecting systems
Boss rewards now interact with characters, special moves, elemental effects, and the account layer. Those connections create interesting combinations, but they also demand better explanations and stricter save handling.
The ongoing balance
A reward earned after a hard encounter should feel powerful. It should not erase every later encounter. That tension is why late-run testing remains a recurring part of development.
